Day 43 - (09/14) Lake Isabella, CA ... Day 2

Our plan for the day just kind of happened.  In other words, we didn't have one.

The morning was cool and pleasant.  We had a pancake & sausage breakfast.

Next came a short walk to the lake.
This little white trumpet caught our attention
on the way to the lake
We'll pass on wading or swimming here, it's yukky!
The lake is beautiful,
but the water level is way down

Then we explored the area around the lake.  The towns of Lake Isabella, Wolford Heights and Kerrville were nice, but didn't inspire any shopping.  We toured four NFS campgrounds around the lake and picked the Hungry Gulch Campground as our choice for another time.

The Kern River became the highlight of our outing.  It's a popular destination for whitewater rafting and kayaking.  We drove into the mountains to see a rafting launch site.

It looks innocent, but 266 have died in the river
This wading works for us, yea!

We ended the day with dinner, visiting, and stargazing.

The campground got busy with late arrivals after dark.  One group was still yakking after 2am.  Arrgh!
