Day 14 - (08/16) Hermiston, OR

The day began with a sunny morning and three helpful ducks quacking at our door.  So much for a peaceful wake-up.
It's time to get up, it's time to get up!

We hitched up, Carol had some goodbye time with Harriet, and we headed out for Oregon.
OK,OK, I'll remember to put the step up.

The 201 mile drive (I-90W to Spokane, WA and US-395S to Hermiston, OR) was pleasant and offered a few fun memories.
Washington was just a few miles from Post Falls
SE Washington was much different than expected.
It's arid and treeless.

We saw dust devils on US-395 south of Spokane.  They just sprung up in the middle of dry fields, danced around for a while, then disappeared.

We updated our contest log in Ritzville, WA.  The Ritz Roadhouse served the hottest and largest Reuben sandwich Dick has ever had.  It certainly gets the "size prize" so far.  Carol had a huge, delicious BLT.  This is a very nice place ... give it a try when you're in the area.

A welcome sight as we cross the Columbia River

We've been in 10 states on this trip.  We saw welcome sign greetings in 9 (all but NE) and only 1 thanks for visiting sign (in OH).  So what?  Well, it's kind'a interesting.

The Pioneer RV Park has very nice facilities and helpful staff.  The only drawbacks are small sites and no shade.  We'll do laundry and a little house cleaning here.
Site #301 (closest to the road)
Park facilities are modern and very clean

We can "smell the hay" for  this part of the trip.  We should be in Portland by early afternoon tomorrow.
