Day 8 - (08/10) Moran, WY ... Day 2

Today was full of many things different.  We drove 144 miles and ended up where we started.  Fortunately, the trailer didn't move.

Weather - it got quite cool last night (low 40s), was overcast most of the day, a thunder storm moved in late in the afternoon.

Route - US-287N to Moran Jct., US-191S through Jackson to Bondurant, back up US-191N to Jackson, WY-22 and WY-390 to Teton Village, WY-390 to Moose, US-191N to Moran Jct., and US-287S to the campground.  This kind of finished the Centennial Scenic Byway drive we started yesterday.

We had lunch at Dairy Queen ... but had no form of ice cream, honest!

We drove through Jackson and down Hoback Canyon to the Green River Valley,  then returned to Jackson for a stop at Teton Village where we rode the Jackson Hole Aerial Tram.

The tram can carry 100 passengers 4,139 ft up the eastern face of Rendezvous Mountain to an elevation of 10,450 ft.  It cost $28 million (to build, not ride).

We met three travelers from CA.  Surprise, surprise ... John & Joan Paton and Louie Le Grande were musicians.  John & Louie studied together at a Cincinnati conservatory and hadn't see each other for 50 years.  Louie knew of Don McGinnis (Carol's friend and flute instructor).  It is a small world!

We took WY-390 to the Granite Canyon entrance to the park.  The road was narrow, rough, partially paved, and pretty busy.  We got back onto US-191 because of poor visibility.  It rained most of the way home.

Yea!  Carol was able to reserve the last site at Fishing Bridge RV Park in Yellowstone.  We'll be moving there tomorrow.

  1. How great to meet those musicians! What a coincidence about them knowing McGinnis!
